Are Tungsten Carbide Saw Tips Worth It?

Tungsten carbide saw blades have become the tool of choice in metalworking, woodworking, stone cutting and other fields due to its ultra-high hardness, wear resistance and thermal stability.

The Mohs hardness of tungsten carbide is as high as 8.5~9.5 (second only to diamond), and with the cobalt-based binder (e.g., YG8 grade contains 8% cobalt), it can withstand the intense friction in high-speed cutting. Measured data show that when cutting stainless steel, the life of tungsten carbide saw blade is 300% longer than that of HSS saw blade.

The melting point of tungsten carbide reaches 2870°C, much higher than steel (about 1500°C). In continuous cutting, its high-temperature red hardness can avoid the softening and deformation of the cutting edge, which is especially suitable for aluminum alloy, titanium alloy and other materials with high thermal conductivity.

The tungsten carbide saw tips , which are precision ground, enable burr-free cutting and reduce the subsequent grinding process. For example, after using tungsten carbide saw blades in a furniture factory, the chipping rate of plates was reduced by 70%.

Different materials can be adapted by adjusting the tooth shape and coating:

Left and right teeth: fast cutting of wood, density board

Trapezoidal teeth: precision cutting of aluminum profiles (anti-sticking)

TiAlN coating: Increased efficiency in cutting stainless steel

If your work involves a lot of cutting tasks, especially if you need to process hard materials, tungsten carbide saw blades are undoubtedly a worthwhile investment. Their excellent wear resistance, cutting performance and diverse application areas will bring you higher efficiency and lower long-term costs for your work.
